Marketing and Strategic Development with Nicole Valentin Alicea of Create Brand NV
Nicole Valentin Alicea is a well-rounded marketing, branding, and advertising professional with superior business acumen. For almost 20 years, Nicole has successfully helped local, national and international companies, agencies, and nonprofits adapt to rapidly changing environments and achieve their business goals. Nicole grew up in Puerto Rico and then moved to Tampa, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications with a concentration in Advertising from the University of South Florida.
Ten years ago she identified a gap in the market and launched her business, Create Brand NV. As the Founder and President, she quickly realized that she needed a better understanding of how to transition to becoming a business owner. The E Myth book helped her understand that to be successful she needed more than passion and skill to run a business. One of the first things she did then was hire Lori Goldsmith, an independent Human Resources consultant, who taught her how to identify a good hire, how to give good feedback, how to give a review, and manage staff. Nicole shared that since hiring Lori she has continued to learn as much as she can about managing and supporting staff through conferences, podcasts, and real-life experiences. A business needs patience, teamwork, passion, skills, hard work, and perseverance. Employees are a company’s greatest investment. Striving and inspiring the employees is the greatest thing to do as a business owner.
Rosie shared that seventy percent of the economy of the United States is run by small businesses. As such, as a community we want small businesses to succeed. Cafecito con Rosie is just one example of how Rosie Paulen Enterprises is creating opportunities for business owners to feel connected and receive valuable information, tips and support. In that vein, Rosie asked Nicole to share a tip with other working mothers and Nicole shared that taking breaks throughout her day had led to increased productivity. What! Yes, taking a break is not a bad thing. It allows you to come back a bit sharper. She also suggested delegating tasks as much as you can is key; use your support system.
As the episode ended, Rosie concluded by sharing a quote from her book,`Neque: The Spirit of a Resilient Mind, “the more information you have on yourself and the people who work with you, the better decision you will make both employee-wise and financially.” As Eileen Bistrisky once said, “ Great leaders are not the best at everything”. Therefore, as a business owner, it is imperative that in business you know the people in your company. If you have happy employees and invest in human capital, then your clients will be happy to come back to a happy environment.
Rosie closes by thanking her support system and friends who help her achieve a thriving, profitable, and successful business as well as Dedicated Senior Medical Center for their sponsorship of Cafecito con Rosie.
